Xylene, dimethylbenzene or xylol is any of three isomers of dimethylbenzene; ortho, meta and para. It is a clear, colourless and flammable liquid with a sweet smell. The major application of the xylene mixture is into the gasoline and petrol blending. It is also an important solvent in the printing, leather, pesticides and rubber industries. Furthermore ii can be used as a cleaning agent for silicon, steel and as a thinner for varnishes, paint, inks and adhesives.
