Formic Acid, also known as methanoic acid, is a clear, colorless liquid with a pungent, vinegar-like odor. It is the simplest carboxylic acid and is highly soluble in water and most organic solvents. Formic acid is both naturally occurring—in the stings of ants and bees—and synthetically produced, typically via the reaction of carbon monoxide with methanol in the presence of a catalyst. It is a corrosive, combustible, and hygroscopic substance with strong reducing properties. Industrially, formic acid is used in leather processing, rubber coagulation, silage preservation, and as a reducing agent in chemical synthesis. Its versatility and biodegradability make it valuable in both traditional and emerging applications
