Ketones

A ketone is an organic compound, where a carbonyl group is linked to a carbon atom in each of two hydrocarbon radicals. It has the general formula RC(=O)R’, where R and R’ can be a variety of carbon containing substituents.

Common Ketones are Acetone and Methyl Ethyl Ketone. They have different uses. Acetone is known as fingernail polish remover but is also commonly used as lacquer and varnish solvent. Methyl Ethyl Ketone can be used in the manufacture of plastics, textiles and also in household products such as paint remover, glues and cleaning agents.
