Butyl glycol is also known as 2-Butoxyethanol, BG, EB, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and glycol monobutyl ether. It is a colourless oily liquid with a typical mild odour. Butyl glycol derives from the glycol ether family. It is miscible with water and with the common organic solvents. The main application of butyl glycol is in the paint industry. It is also used as a solvent in printing inks and textile dyes and as one of the components of hydraulic fluids.
